Expressions of Interest for MAV CouncilPosition: Director with Primary Education experience The MAV Council is seeking expressions of interest from appropriately experienced Primary educators to join the MAV Council as a Director. In order to ensure a diverse representation of education segments in Victoria, the MAV Council is considering appointing a Director with experience and interest in primary mathematics education. This will strengthen the current mix of expertise and support diverse thinking and strong decision making. Your experience should include recent primary leadership (school or system – leading teacher) and/or classroom teacher experience. A strong interest in and knowledge of primary mathematics education issues is essential. In order to contribute effectively to the Council, personal qualities should include integrity, curiosity, interpersonal skills, active contributor, genuine interest in the sector, ability to analyse situations, draw conclusions and make decisions. Candidates with previous governance or director experience are highly desirable. Educators based in a regional area will be considered with the option of attending some meetings via video conference. Please send a CV and cover letter outlining your interest and experience to Peter Saffin, CEO. psaffin@mav.vic.edu.au. Expressions of interest are required by Tuesday 24th July at midday. About being a Director (Councilor) of MAVMAV is incorporated as a Public Company, and as such becoming a Council member means becoming an official company Director as per the Corporations Act. You should ensure that you understand the requirements of being a Director before committing to nominate for this responsibility. The Council are an official Company Board: The Councillors jointly as the Council (Board) provide leadership, set strategic and policy direction; and oversee the business and affairs of the association for the purpose for which the association is established. The Council is accountable to the members of the association for the overall performance and governance of the association. The (Constitution) Memorandum and Articles of Association of the Mathematical Association of Victoria can be accessed here. The Council Charter provides a detailed description of the requirements of becoming a Director (Councilor). It is highly recommended that you read this Council Charter prior to submitting your expression of interest to ensure that you can fulfill the responsibilities of being a Director.
