Scaling © Phil Boorman |
This site provides many challenging explorations in Point Symmetry for a range of students across the years. The puzzles can be used straight from the screen or printed and used as workcards.
However, in some circumstances it may be important to have a match between the Symmetry Set pieces and their drawings, or between the pieces and the dots on the recording paper. For example:
When printed from the system on which the puzzles and grids were designed, the measurements are exact. Unfortunately variations in computers and printers across the world may mean that pictures and grids printed from your web browser do not exactly match the pieces. If you need accurately scaled workcards or recording paper, and you have a system that can open or import Microsoft Word '97, then download the files below.
Print one of the graph grids and measure the length between dot centres. For many users the print will be accurate.
If it is not the stated measurement, calculate the percentage you need to make it accurate, then use Format/Picture/Size and enter your calculation in both length and width.
Print again to check. This same percentage will be what you apply to any pictures in any Point Symmetry documents printed from your system.
You can download any of the puzzles or recording papers one by one, or take the lot at once in the zipped file.
Note: Files have been prepared in A4 size, so adjust the page setup if you are using Letter size paper.
