The 2011 MAV Conference took place on Thursday 1st and Friday 2nd of December at La Trobe University, Bundoora.

Over 1,749 people attended the conference over 2 days.

Conference Opening

We were very pleased to have the Hon Martin Dixon, MP, Minister for Education, Victorian State Government open the 2011 MAV Annual Conference.

Martin_DixonMartin was first elected to the Victorian Parliament as the Member for Dromana 1996 and then re-elected in 1999. Following a redistribution of electorate boundaries in 2001 Dromana electorate was abolished and he was then re-elected as the first Member for Nepean in November 2002, 2006 and again in 2010.

Martin was educated at Marcellin College, Bulleen, Australian Catholic University and La Trobe University. He holds a Diploma of Teaching and Bachelor of Education. After four years of teaching he moved on to become principal of three schools over fifteen years, finally becoming Deputy Chairman, Primary Education, Catholic Education Office, Melbourne.

He has been a member of five Joint Parliamentary Committees and was Secretary of the Parliamentary Liberal Party, Opposition Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Opposition Spokesman for Tertiary Education and Training, Opposition Spokesman on Tourism, Opposition Whip, Shadow Minister for Tourism, Community Services, Education and Training, Education Services, Skills and Employment, Innovation, Victorian Communities and Veterans Affairs and Education.

Martin and his wife Chris live in Rye and have two adult children. His interests are reading, architecture, cars and aviation. He enjoys waterskiing, tennis and golf.
