As part of the MAV's ongoing strategic planning process, Council reviews the MAV committee structure at the beginning of each Council term. This year, the following committees will support the Council of MAV. Membership involvement is encouraged. Membership, Marketing & Communications
The brief for this committee in 2012 includes planning to increase individual memberships and the take up of memberships in primary schools and to make explore ways of enabling the MAV to make better use of new communication technologies.
Professional Development
This committee plans and reviews all professional development activities for the MAV. In 2012 the challenges include ongoing implementation of the Victorian Essential Learning Standards, delivering professional learning opportunities in a way that responds to the greater accent on in-school programs and cluster activities, rolling out the MAV's Professional Learning Assistance Team professional learning model and increasing the offerings available to teachers working in primary schools and at the lower secondary level.
Student Activities
Sub-Committees MTQ, Games, Other, Public Lectures
This committee is responsible for initiating, planning and reviewing activities aimed at stimulating and motivating students' interest and activity in mathematics. The main student activities are the popular Maths Talent Quest, Student Camps and Games Days, VCE Revision Lectures, Education Week Activities and participation in The Age VCE and Careers Expo.
Publications - books
This committee plans and reviews all publishing activities for the MAV. In 2012 this Committee will oversee the publication of a wide range of fresh resources and monitor the effectiveness of the MAV Shop: http://www.mav.vic.edu.au/shop/
Publications - Journals
This committee supports the development of the MAVs two flagship journals Prime Number and Vinculum. In 2012 this Committee needs to support a new Editor for Prime Number and ensure that both editors are supported through the Editorial Board.
Annual Conference
This committee coordinates the popular annual event in December. In 2012 the conference will be held on Thursday 6 and Friday 7 December, at La Trobe University, Bundoora Campus. Principal responsibilities include sourcing presenters and keynote speakers, assistance with programming and reporting to Council on progress against budget.
