Many of the lessons on the Maths300 site support and extend a large number of the hands-on tasks from the Curriculum Corporation Mathematics Task Centre Project.
Each Maths300 lesson offers step by step development based on trial school experiences of using the task with the whole class. This whole class approach complements the use of the task by pairs of students by allowing the teacher to:
- focus on digging into the mathematical iceberg of the task
- illustrate and reinforce the process of Working Mathematically.
A balanced curriculum includes:
- using class lessons to model how to work like a mathematician, and
- offering through the tasks an invitation to practise the process being modelled.
Many Maths300 extensions of the tasks promote even deeper exploration through specially written software.
School membership of Maths300 allows all staff to access the site at any time from school or home, and permission to use any software from the site on any number of computers on the one campus, or on their home computer.
Curriculum Corporation offers subscription to the site in three forms:
- Membership only.
- Membership plus a companion CD-ROM titled Starting Maths300. The CD contains 51 lessons, 21 of which have software.
- Membership plus Starting Maths300 plus 31 tasks on which 31 of the CD lessons are built.
